NT: Open Kakadu to pig shooters, senator
A senator says Australia's world heritage-listed Kakadu National Park should be openedup to pig shooters.
Country Liberal Party Senator for the Northern Territory NIGEL SCULLION wants the federalgovernment to allow sporting shooters into the park to help control feral animal numbers.
The proposal is one of a series of ideas which Senator SCULLION will present to FederalEnvironment Minister DAVID KEMP this week.
The idea is to attract more visitors to the park.
Senator SCULLION says the iconic park would be significantly revamped if the KakaduBoard of Management adopted his proposals.
The park's managers, Parks Australia North, had recommended an increase in park entryfees to meet increases in operating costs.
But Senator SCULLION says the federal government needs to attract more visitors tothe world famous area, rather than a hike in fees.
